What it does

Sometimes the quickest way to understand a page is to set it next to another. Why does a competitor's pricing page show a rich card when yours doesn't? Did yesterday's deploy drop the canonical tag? Does staging match production?

This tool fetches two pages and lines up the same fields from each: the title, meta description, canonical, robots tag, H1, language, Open Graph and X card tags, schema types, hreflang, and counts of headings, words and links. Anything that differs is marked, so you can see the gaps in a few seconds.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter one address in the First page field.
  2. 2Enter the other in the Second page field.
  3. 3Press Compare.
  4. 4Read the summary, which tells you how many fields differ, then check the rows marked differs in the table.

Good pairs to compare

The tool doesn't care which two pages you choose, so use it for more than competitors.

  • Your page and a competitor's page that ranks above it for the same search.
  • Staging and production, before you ship a template change.
  • The same page before and after a redesign, if the old version is still up somewhere.
  • Two language versions of a page, to check hreflang and canonical tags agree.
  • Two posts built on the same template, one that performs and one that doesn't.

Reading the differences

Some differences are expected. Titles and descriptions should differ between pages. Others are warning signs: an empty canonical, a robots tag that says noindex, a missing H1, or schema types on one page but not the other.

Word counts and link counts are context, not targets. A longer page isn't better because it's longer. If a competitor's page has twice the words, read it and see whether it answers questions yours skips.

Both pages are read as plain HTML from the server. Tags or content added by JavaScript after the page loads aren't seen.

Questions

What fields does it compare?

Title, description, canonical, robots, H1, language, og:title, og:description, og:image, twitter:card, schema types, hreflang, and counts of headings, words, internal links and external links.

Can I compare pages on different sites?

Yes. Any two public web pages work, on the same site or different ones.

Does it compare the visible text?

Not line by line. It compares tags and counts. To compare the copy itself, read both pages side by side.

Why does a field show none?

That page doesn't have the tag, or it's added by JavaScript after the page loads, which this tool doesn't run.
